MEP Design Lead – Major Healthcare Projects

About the role

Kier is seeking an experienced MEP Design Lead to join its Major Project team delivering large‑scale acute healthcare facilities across the UK. The role involves leading MEP design from pre‑construction through to completion, mentoring a team of design professionals, and ensuring high‑quality outcomes for projects valued over £200 million.

Key responsibilities

• Lead MEP design and coordination delivery from pre‑construction to completion, aligning with agreed delivery strategies.
• Supervise and mentor the MEP design management team, conduct performance reviews and support professional development.
• Collaborate with construction design colleagues and external stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.
• Oversee multiple design workstreams, manage consultant performance and ensure quality outputs meet programme requirements.
• Manage design risk and opportunities, contribute to integrated programmes and support commercial and procurement strategies.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in Tier 1 contracting delivering complex major projects over £200 million.
• Engineering qualification (e.g., BEng Hons in Building Services Engineering) and membership of a professional institute such as CIBSE or IET.
• Strong leadership and people‑management skills, with a track record of mentoring and developing teams.
• Excellent communication and collaborative problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with BIM (ISO 19650) for MEP design coordination.
• In‑depth knowledge of the Building Safety Act and related statutory legislation.
• Familiarity with HTM/HBN standards and public‑sector governance processes.
