Mid-Level Software Engineer (Python & Rust)

About the role

As a Mid-Level Software Engineer at Smarkets you will design, develop and maintain core services that power our prediction‑market platform. You will work closely with engineering managers, technical leads and product managers to deliver high‑impact projects aligned with the product roadmap.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain complex features in Python and Rust.
• Implement alerting and monitoring to ensure service stability.
• Write tests and review merge requests to uphold code quality.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines and engineering processes.
• Mentor teammates and lead technical projects.
• Collaborate with product and other engineering teams on business‑aligned initiatives.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python and willingness to learn Rust.
• Experience building distributed systems in a cloud environment.
• Familiarity with DevOps tools such as GitLab and Kubernetes.
• Experience with message queues (e.g., Apache Kafka) and SQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Strong communication skills in English and ability to work cross‑functionally.
