Military Medical Examiner – Part‑time (MoD)

About the role

The Military Medical Examiner will deliver comprehensive medical assessments for Royal Navy and Marine recruits on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. Working on‑site at one of four UK naval bases, you will help determine candidates' fitness for service while adhering to strict clinical standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review full GP records of Navy/Marine applicants to identify potential medical barriers.
• Conduct face‑to‑face interviews and full‑body examinations (excluding private areas) to gather additional health information.
• Make fitness‑for‑service decisions or refer complex cases to senior Navy doctors.
• Complete required documentation and communicate outcomes to applicants.
• Participate in occupational health meetings and maintain accurate, confidential records.
• Declare any conflicts of interest and follow organisational policies.

Required profile

• Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and active CPD record.
• Compliance with GMC appraisal and revalidation requirements.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently.
• Willingness to travel to and be present on‑site at the assigned naval base.

• Pro‑rated annual salary of £60,000 (based on a three‑day week).
• Flexible part‑time schedule – three days per week, Monday to Wednesday.
• Contract until April 2027 with the possibility of extension.
