Mobile HGV Technician

About the role

This permanent, mobile position is based in Crawley and covers East and West Sussex. You will be the first point of contact for breakdowns and routine maintenance on a modern municipal fleet that includes refuse trucks, sweepers, gritters and specialised equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Travel to sites to diagnose, repair and service HGVs and specialist municipal vehicles.
• Perform breakdown interventions, roadside fault fixing and on‑site repairs.
• Carry out routine maintenance, inspections and MOT preparation.
• Conduct hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical fault finding and repairs.
• Undertake chassis and fabrication work, including hydraulics and pneumatics improvements.
• Ensure all work complies with DVSA and manufacturer standards.
• Provide excellent customer service to depot teams and fleet managers.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an HGV Technician, Commercial Vehicle Technician, Mobile Engineer or similar field role.
• Strong diagnostic and fault‑finding abilities.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems and municipal equipment.
• Full UK driving licence (HGV Class 1/2 advantageous but not essential).
• LOLER, tail‑lift or refuse‑vehicle experience is a plus.
• Ex‑forces (REME or military vehicle technicians) are strongly encouraged to apply.
