Motor Underwriter – Full Underwriting Authority

About the role

IPS Group is partnering with a leading insurer to recruit a Motor Underwriter for its National Underwriting Hub in Colchester. This position offers full underwriting authority and the chance to deepen technical expertise within motor trade insurance.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of new business and renewal motor trade cases.
• Make profitable underwriting decisions aligned with company appetite and guidelines.
• Collaborate closely with brokers and internal teams to drive growth and maintain strong trading relationships.
• Stay informed on market trends and insights relevant to motor insurance.
• Provide support and guidance to colleagues on underwriting queries.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in motor trade underwriting, preferably commercial lines.
• Strong negotiation and broker relationship abilities.
• Commercial awareness with the capacity to assess and price risk effectively.
• Organised, proactive and capable of handling a varied caseload.
• Working towards CII certification (desirable) and full underwriting authority.

What we offer

• Salary up to £40,000 per year (range £35,000‑£45,000).
• Three days per week onsite work in Colchester.
