Network Designer – Secondary Network Design

About the role

We are seeking a Network Designer to join our Secondary Network Design team. The role is based in one of our UK locations (Bristol, Cardiff, Castle Donington or Tipton) and reports to the Secondary Network Design Manager. You will work closely with the System Planning team to develop reinforcement schemes for the low‑voltage (LV) network and deliver comprehensive design packages to Network Services.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with the Secondary System Planning Team to define reinforcement requirements.
• Perform electrical analysis including voltage, load‑flow and fault‑level studies.
• Design LV network schemes, considering asset replacement and new connection standards.
• Build and document HV and LV schemes using Crown software.
• Produce, update and maintain detailed scheme files and related documentation.
• Issue work to contractors, approve daily work sheets and carry out quality/compliance checks.
• Meet tight deadlines for scheme delivery to Network Services.
• Provide technical support and coordination with planners and other team members.

Required skills

• Experience with LV network design and reinforcement planning.
• Electrical analysis skills (voltage, load‑flow, fault level).
• Proficiency in network modelling tools such as EMU/Smallworld GIS, Connect/LV, ConnectGrid, WinDebut or equivalent.
• Ability to build schemes in Crown software for HV and LV projects.
