Network Implementation Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Network Implementation Engineer to join our Chester‑based team on a 12‑month contract. You will work on large‑scale enterprise network projects, focusing on B2B connectivity, DMZ environments and hardware refresh programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Implement, configure and deploy network infrastructure in line with architectural standards and governance.
• Design, build and support complex Cisco‑based networking solutions, including routing, switching and DMZ connectivity.
• Analyse existing designs, produce technical assessments and recommend improvements.
• Create detailed implementation documentation covering testing, validation, rollback and acceptance procedures.
• Participate in technical design reviews and collaborate with design, architecture, operations and project teams.
• Support network refresh initiatives for end‑of‑life and end‑of‑support equipment.
• Ensure compliance with change, risk and operational governance processes.
• Assist operational teams with troubleshooting and escalations, and identify automation and standardisation opportunities.

Required profile

• Proven experience in enterprise networking design, build, implementation and support.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver network infrastructure projects in complex, mission‑critical environments.
• Strong understanding of network security principles and B2B connectivity requirements.

Required skills

• Core networking concepts and Cisco IOS‑XE.
• Routing & switching protocols: BGP, OSPF, ISIS, MPLS, QoS.
• WAN technologies, DMZ architecture and network security (VPN, firewalls, ACLs, SSL/TLS, GRE, IPSEC).
• NAC (802.1X), AAA services, carrier circuits, leased lines and cross‑connects.
• Data‑centre networking, dark fibre, DWDM and wireless solutions.
• Desirable: Fortinet firewalls, load balancers, Arista networking, DNS, SD‑Access, MACsec, McAfee/Skyhigh proxy, L2TP, NHRP.
