New Business Commercial Trading Underwriter – City Office

About the role

Join a fast‑growing insurance group as a Trading Underwriter, focusing on new business across a broad commercial product range. You will work from the city office, supporting brokers and business development teams while ensuring underwriting decisions align with the company’s risk appetite and Treating Customers Fairly principles.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite new commercial business, assessing quotations accurately and efficiently.
• Handle broker enquiries within agreed service level agreements, providing a professional and friendly service.
• Collaborate with Business Development Managers to strengthen broker relationships across the region.
• Act as a referral point for colleagues with lower underwriting authority and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.
• Contribute to process improvements and support overall business objectives.
• Provide telephone support to brokers, ensuring workloads are completed within SLA requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of commercial underwriting experience, preferably in property or casualty lines.
• Self‑motivated with strong influencing and relationship‑building abilities.
• Excellent communication, teamwork and organisational skills.
• Desirable CII or ACII qualification (not essential).
• Ability to work under pressure, solve problems proactively and maintain a positive, reliable attitude.
