Night Transport Manager

About the role

The Night Transport Manager leads the overnight logistics operation for The Bread Factory, ensuring that all deliveries are completed safely, on time, and in line with company standards. This role works closely with planning, fleet, and warehouse teams to keep the night shift running smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee night transport activities, monitoring live operations and resolving issues promptly.
• Collaborate with the Planning team to improve route efficiency, optimise vehicle utilisation and reduce costs.
• Work with the Fleet team to maximise vehicle availability and ensure cost‑effective use of resources.
• Manage driver attendance, absences, welfare, and conduct performance reviews, coaching and probation meetings.
• Maintain the driver rota, arrange cover for absences and ensure compliance with Working Time Regulations, Drivers' Hours and road transport legislation.
• Prepare vehicles, equipment and resources for the start of the day shift.
• Build effective relationships with Customer Care, Account Managers, Warehouse Operations and other internal stakeholders.

Required profile

• Strong leadership and people‑management skills, with experience supervising night‑shift teams.
• Good understanding of transport legislation, health and safety standards and working‑time regulations.
• Ability to analyse operational data and make proactive decisions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management abilities.

Required skills

• Knowledge of route planning and vehicle utilisation optimisation.
• Familiarity with driver performance monitoring and coaching techniques.
• Understanding of transport compliance requirements (Drivers' Hours, road transport law, health & safety).
