NPD Technologist – Bakery

About the role

We are looking for a passionate NPD Technologist to join a leading UK food manufacturing business in Cheshire. You will drive the development and launch of innovative bread products, working closely with commercial, technical and supplier teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support bread NPD and EPD projects from concept through to launch.
• Maintain accurate product development documentation for branded and own‑label products.
• Monitor consumer trends, market insights and competitor activity to identify opportunities.
• Develop innovative concepts and contribute to the long‑term innovation pipeline.
• Build strong customer relationships and support visits and presentations.
• Collaborate with commercial and costing teams to meet customer and business targets.
• Work with strategic suppliers to drive technical innovation.
• Ensure compliance with internal quality systems, BRC standards and customer requirements.
• Partner with technical teams on allergen management, HACCP and product compliance.
• Provide troubleshooting and technical support to Operations, including cost‑engineering projects.

Required profile

• Degree in Food Science or Bakery and Patisserie.
• Minimum 2 years experience in product development or NPD within the bakery manufacturing sector.
• Strong understanding of bakery ingredients, food processing and manufacturing operations.
• Experience managing products through the full development lifecycle.
• Knowledge of retailer NPD systems and major UK retail accounts.
• Familiarity with food labelling legislation, nutritional information and packaging requirements.
