Nurse Consultant – Infection Prevention and Control

About the role

The Nurse Consultant will provide senior clinical leadership within Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare Associated Infection (ARHAI) Scotland, supporting national programmes that improve infection prevention across the NHS. This is a 24‑month fixed‑term/secondment position delivering strategic guidance, surveillance and operational support.

Key responsibilities

• Lead infection prevention and control activities across six priority programmes (ICBED, NPGE, CHIPC, D&I, CA, SONAAR).
• Develop and update national guidance, policies and evidence‑based recommendations.
• Provide expertise for incident and outbreak management, including decontamination and built‑environment considerations.
• Deliver training and mentorship to NHS staff and external partners.
• Contribute to research, data analysis and clinical assurance initiatives.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with extensive experience in infection prevention and control at a senior level.
• Demonstrated clinical leadership within NHS or equivalent health‑care settings.
• Strong knowledge of antimicrobial resistance, healthcare‑associated infection, and related legislation.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and national programmes.
