Nurse Manager / Clinical Lead – Substance Misuse Services

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Manager / Clinical Lead to direct high-quality substance-misuse services in Southend-on-Sea. The role combines clinical expertise with managerial responsibility, overseeing both patient care and service delivery within a part-time, 28-hour week.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of evidence‑based substance‑misuse treatment, including Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) programmes.
• Manage a specialist prescribing service, ensuring safe substitute prescribing, alcohol detoxification, withdrawal management and medication titration.
• Oversee assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment pathways, reducing waiting times and improving access to psychosocial interventions.
• Provide clinical guidance to nursing staff on controlled drug administration, overdose prevention and other safety considerations.
• Supervise and develop multidisciplinary teams, deputise for the Substance Misuse Services Manager when required.
• Monitor outcomes, report to commissioners and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
• Travel between sites as needed to maintain continuity of care.

Required profile

• Qualified nurse with substantial experience in substance‑misuse or related mental health services.
• Demonstrated leadership and managerial capability in a clinical setting.
• Commitment to delivering safe, effective, patient‑centred care.
• Ability to work collaboratively with partner agencies and adhere to national guidelines.
