Nursery Manager

About the role

This permanent position is for an experienced early years leader who will oversee a thriving nursery in Thornaby. You will combine warmth, emotional intelligence and strong organisational skills to create a safe, nurturing environment where children can learn and play.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the day‑to‑day operation of the nursery.
• Create a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment for children and staff.
• Ensure full compliance with EYFS, safeguarding and Ofsted requirements.
• Support, mentor and develop the nursery team.
• Build strong relationships with children, families and the wider community.
• Drive continuous improvement in quality and practice.
• Support occupancy growth and family engagement.
• Collaborate with the wider leadership team across four Barn nurseries.
• Promote a positive, welcoming and values‑led culture.

Required profile

• Hold a relevant Level 3 qualification minimum (Level 5, 6 or 7 desirable).
• Previous leadership or management experience in an early years setting.
• Strong knowledge of EYFS, safeguarding and Ofsted requirements.
• Confidence in leading teams and supporting staff development.
• Organised, proactive and solutions‑focused.
• Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
• Passion for outdoor learning and child‑led practice.
• Warmth, positivity and a genuine desire to improve children’s lives.
