Obsolescence Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Obsolescence Engineer to join our thriving manufacturing team in Stockport. In this newly created position you will proactively manage component part obsolescence risks and ensure continuity of supply across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Proactively monitor the lifecycle status of components and materials.
• Identify parts within the BOM that are at risk of obsolescence.
• Develop mitigation strategies such as last‑time buys, alternative components or redesign.
• Collaborate with internal teams (Procurement, Supply Chain, Engineering) and external suppliers and customers.
• Maintain accurate reporting using obsolescence management tools and databases.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of obsolescence management processes.

Required profile

• Strong engineering background (Degree, HNC or Apprenticeship in Engineering).
• Previous experience in obsolescence management, component engineering or product lifecycle support within a complex manufacturing environment (e.g., automotive or aerospace).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
