Operations Director – Extraction Systems

About the role

We are seeking an Operations Director to lead the extraction systems and associated services division of a specialist designer and installer of laboratory furniture, fume cupboards and ventilation solutions. Reporting directly to the owners, you will be responsible for the end‑to‑end delivery of laboratory ventilation projects across the UK, from tender through to final account.

Key responsibilities

• Direct day‑to‑day operations including workshop production, installation teams and subcontractor management.
• Review client enquiries, specifications, drawings, Bills of Quantities and contract documents.
• Prepare, review and approve quotations for laboratory extraction systems, ductwork, fans and control packages.
• Assess technical and commercial risk, set project margins and programme allowances.
• Lead pre‑contract negotiations, subcontract reviews and contract execution.
• Oversee project managers to ensure safe, on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
• Coordinate technical design of ductwork, airflow routes, fans, dampers and control systems, working with CAD and engineering teams.
• Manage procurement of specialist equipment and subcontract packages.
• Handle applications for payment, variations, contra charges and final accounts.
• Resolve commissioning, performance and after‑sales issues and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Senior manager with extensive experience in HVAC, LEV or industrial ventilation sectors.
• Proven commercial awareness and ability to manage large, technically complex projects.
• Hands‑on leadership style with experience overseeing workshops, installation crews and subcontractors.
• Strong understanding of laboratory extraction systems and related mechanical services.
