Operations & Failure Management Internship – 13 months

About the role

Join the Operations and Failure Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) team within the Functional Avionics group in Stevenage. The team oversees spacecraft operations from launch to end‑of‑life, handling both nominal and contingency situations. This 13‑month placement offers hands‑on experience with satellite architecture and the chance to work alongside subsystem engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure the satellite operates safely in nominal and failure scenarios, contributing to mission success.
• Define and refine operational and FDIR concepts during early design phases, including mission scenarios and recovery actions.
• Develop detailed FDIR monitors, interface with software teams, and author and test Flight Operations Procedures.
• Collaborate with functional engineering, verification, and database teams to integrate telecommands and data parameters.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Robotics Engineering, Electronic Design or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience with coding in C++, Java and Python.
• Proactive problem‑solver able to analyse complex situations with many variables.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with diverse stakeholders.
