Operations Manager – Energy from Waste Facility

About the role
The Operations Manager will lead the senior site management team at FCC Environment’s Energy from Waste facility, ensuring safe, compliant and efficient plant operation. This full‑time, on‑site role focuses on maintaining high plant availability, driving continuous improvement and supporting the Plant Manager when required.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop the Operations team to foster a strong team‑working culture.
- Ensure safe, efficient and compliant operation of the waste‑to‑energy facility.
- Collaborate with the Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Manager to promote a safe working environment.
- Oversee shift patterns, team availability and operational coverage.
- Support accident, incident and near‑miss reporting processes.
- Develop, deliver and review operational procedures.
- Work closely with Maintenance teams to maximise plant availability and performance.
- Manage planned and unplanned outages safely and effectively.
- Control departmental budgets and external technical support contracts.
- Deputise for the Plant Manager as needed.
Required profile
- Credible leader with strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Proven experience of leading, developing and motivating teams.
- Strong analytical and decision‑making abilities.
- Minimum HNC in a relevant engineering discipline.
- At least five years’ supervisory experience in an operations and engineering environment.
- Experience with process plant related to steam‑powered electricity generation.
Required skills
- Detailed knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation for steam‑powered electricity generation.
- Understanding of Safe Systems of Work and Permit to Work systems.
