Operations Manager – Faculty of History

About the role

The Faculty of History at the University of Oxford is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and enhance its operational services. Based in the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, you will work closely with academic and professional colleagues to ensure the smooth running of a large, research‑intensive department.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership across governance, research support, finance, communications, compliance and health & safety.
• Lead multiple professional services teams, driving continuous improvement and high‑quality service delivery.
• Deputise for the Head of Administration and Finance, contributing to strategic planning and business continuity.
• Oversee Faculty operations, ensuring effective support for teaching, research and public engagement activities.

Required profile

• Proven operational leadership experience in higher education or a large public‑sector organisation.
• Strong organisational, analytical and people‑management capabilities.
• Ability to build relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and communicate effectively at all levels.
• Experience with governance, research administration, compliance, project management or organisational change is advantageous.
