About the role
At Wetheringsett Manor School we are seeking an enthusiastic and creative Outdoor Education Teacher to lead and develop our outdoor learning provision for pupils aged 11‑18 with additional needs such as ASD and SEMH. This role combines a passion for education, the outdoors and personal development to make a genuine difference to young people’s lives.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver high‑quality outdoor education lessons to pupils aged 11‑18.
- Teach Forest School, horticulture, Duke of Edinburgh Award and life‑skills programmes.
- Act as a Form Tutor, supporting pupils’ personal development and wellbeing.
- Develop and enhance the school’s outdoor learning provision.
- Adapt teaching to meet the needs of pupils with ASD, SEMH and other additional learning needs.
- Collaborate with the therapy team to create pupil‑centred learning experiences.
- Plan, assess and monitor pupil progress to ensure strong outcomes.
- Create safe, stimulating and engaging learning environments both indoors and outdoors.
- Support pupils to develop independence, confidence, social skills and resilience.
- Build positive relationships with families, colleagues and external professionals.
Required profile
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Experience working with pupils with SEND, ASD, SEMH or complex needs.
- Passion for outdoor learning and experiential education.
- Experience delivering or supporting Forest School, horticulture, DofE or similar programmes.
- Ability to inspire and engage pupils who have experienced barriers to learning.
- Organised, resilient and committed to achieving the best outcomes for every pupil.
- Belief that every young person can succeed with the right support.
- Driving licence required.
