Part-Time Lecturer for Africentric Perspectives in Social Work (Winter 2027)

About the role

Dalhousie University is seeking a part‑time academic to teach the online course SLWK 5110 – Africentric Perspectives in Social Work during the Winter term (January‑April 2027). The role involves delivering course content, assessing student work, and providing online support.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver lectures on Africentric theory and its application in social work practice.
• Grade assignments, exams, and discussion contributions.
• Provide online consultation and feedback to students via Brightspace.
• Develop course materials and activities during a 1‑2 month preparation period before delivery.

Required profile

• In‑depth knowledge of historical and contemporary experiences of African Nova Scotians and Africans in the diaspora.
• Understanding of Africentric theory and its relevance to social work practice.
• Master of Social Work (MSW) degree or higher.
• Prior experience teaching at the university level.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Brightspace learning management system.
