Part‑time Cleaner – Independent School

About the role

Join the Housekeeping Department of a leading independent school and help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. The role is part‑time and permanent, offering flexible shift options across the senior and preparatory sites.

Key responsibilities

• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, teaching spaces and communal areas to the school’s hygiene standards.
• Operate a range of cleaning equipment, including steamers, carpet cleaners and colour‑coded tools.
• Perform deep‑cleaning tasks at the end of terms and after maintenance work.
• Strip and make beds, empty bins and replenish cleaning product stocks.
• Report any maintenance issues or pupil welfare concerns to supervisory staff.
• Attend mandatory training sessions and staff meetings.

Required profile

• Clear communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
• Punctual, flexible and capable of managing time effectively.
• Works well independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
• Physically able to perform cleaning duties across multiple buildings.

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard and specialist cleaning equipment.
• Understanding of colour‑coded cleaning protocols and health‑safety requirements.

What we offer

• Hourly rate of £12.71, increasing to £13.09 from 1 September 2026.
• Flexible shift patterns (early mornings or early evenings) totalling 15‑17.5 hours per week.
