Part‑time Field Interviewer – Croydon

About the role

NatCen is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join its team of field interviewers in Croydon. You will visit households, conduct research interviews on topics such as health, housing and transport, and capture real‑life experiences using a tablet or laptop.

Key responsibilities

• Knock on doors and introduce yourself to residents who have been pre‑notified about the study.
• Conduct structured interviews, recording responses accurately on a digital device.
• Handle refusals professionally and maintain a positive attitude throughout each visit.
• Travel to assigned areas, logging mileage and travel time as required.
• Submit interview data promptly and adhere to data‑security guidelines.

Required profile

• Valid UK driving licence and sole use of a car.
• Class 1 business insurance for the vehicle.
• Right to work in the UK and willingness to undergo a DBS check.
• Reliable home broadband and a laptop or tablet with a camera.
• At least 18 hours of availability per week, with flexibility for weekdays, evenings and weekends.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills.

Required skills

• Comfortable using basic technology (tablet or laptop) for data entry.

What we offer

• £20‑£30 per completed interview (average hourly rate around £15.12, including holiday pay).
• Admin fees and holiday pay (12.1%).
• Travel compensation at £4.68 per hour and mileage reimbursement at 36p per mile (up to 10,000 miles).
• Performance bonuses: £250 after launch, then additional £250 at two and four months.
