About the role
Merton College is looking for an inspiring part‑time Lecturer to deliver GCSE English and Functional Skills to adult learners. The role starts in August 2026 on a 0.8 FTE permanent contract and includes some evening teaching.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and deliver inclusive, high‑quality lessons across a range of English levels.
- Act as a personal tutor, supporting learners’ academic progress and wellbeing.
- Develop and continuously improve curriculum resources and assessment materials.
- Maintain accurate records, manage administrative duties and meet tight scheduling requirements.
- Utilise educational technologies and collaborative tools to enhance learner engagement.
Required profile
- Degree or Level 6 qualification in English or a related subject.
- Teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
- Proven experience teaching English to adults in Further Education or a similar setting, including Functional Skills and GCSE.
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and inclusive teaching strategies.
- Excellent planning, organisational and administrative abilities.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
