Part‑Time Technical Manager (UKAS / ISO 17025)

About the role

Zero Surplus is seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead its calibration business through UKAS accreditation. This part‑time position offers flexible days and the chance to shape quality and technical processes for autoclave and related equipment calibration.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support the UKAS accreditation process for calibration services.
• Implement and maintain procedures based on the existing Quality Manual.
• Ensure ongoing compliance with ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards.
• Conduct internal audits and support quality‑system implementation.
• Oversee calibration activities involving time, temperature and pressure.
• Develop, review and apply uncertainty budgets.
• Interpret EN ratios for inter‑laboratory comparisons (ILCs).
• Perform drift analysis and guide corrective actions.
• Train, mentor and motivate engineers with limited experience of the standard.
• Support continuous improvement, auditing and authorisation activities.

Required profile

• Strong working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
• Proven experience in calibration of time, temperature and pressure.
• Solid understanding of uncertainty budgeting and drift analysis.
• Experience with inter‑laboratory comparisons and EN‑ratio interpretation.
• Ability to audit and implement quality systems effectively.
• Confidence in training and developing technical teams.

What we offer

• Part‑time permanent contract (approximately 2 days per week).
• Salary £50,000‑£55,000 pro rata per year.
