Pastoral Assistant

About the role

The Witherslack Group is seeking a Pastoral Assistant to support young people with complex emotional, behavioural and autism‑related needs. Working on‑site at our Wheatley campus, you will help create a safe, nurturing environment that enables each student to thrive academically and personally.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and group pastoral care for children with ASD, BESD or other SEND profiles.
• Develop and implement individualized support plans in collaboration with families and clinical teams.
• Monitor emotional wellbeing, record observations and adjust interventions as needed.
• Assist with classroom activities, ensuring a high staff‑to‑child ratio and consistent supervision.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to progress reports.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with young people who have autism spectrum disorder or social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Strong listening skills and the ability to motivate and inspire students.
• Excellent teamwork, organisational and flexibility skills.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of care and confidentiality.
