Pastoral Assistant

About the role

The Pastoral Assistant will support young people with complex emotional, behavioural and autism‑related needs in a specialist SEND setting. Working closely with families and the in‑house clinical team, you will help create a safe, nurturing environment where each learner can thrive.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day pastoral care for children and adolescents with ASD, BESD or related needs.
• Develop and implement individualized support plans in partnership with families and staff.
• Monitor emotional wellbeing and intervene promptly to de‑escalate challenging behaviours.
• Collaborate with teachers, therapists and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach.
• Maintain accurate records of observations, interventions and progress.

Required profile

• Experience working with young people who have autism spectrum disorder or social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Strong listening skills and the ability to motivate and inspire confidence.
• Excellent teamwork and communication abilities.
• Flexibility, good organisational skills and a commitment to high standards of care.

Required skills

• Understanding of pastoral care principles in a SEND context.
