Payments and Screening Analyst

About the role

The Payments and Screening Analyst works within the First Line of Defence to ensure Marex complies with sanctions, anti‑money‑laundering and counter‑terrorist financing regulations. The role involves timely and accurate review of payment and screening alerts, investigation of potential financial‑crime risks, and escalation of findings to senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Review and investigate real‑time, pre‑screening and other payment screening alerts generated from inbound and outbound payment activity.
• Conduct ongoing adverse media, politically exposed person (PEP), sanctions and watch‑list screening for existing business relationships using approved systems.
• Assess potential matches against sanctions lists, watch‑lists, PEP data and internal risk criteria, determining false positives, possible matches or true matches.
• Prepare clear, evidence‑based rationales for disposition decisions and raise requests for additional information when needed.
• Escalate material financial‑crime concerns, control issues and risk events promptly to the Head of Screening or Financial Crime Compliance.
• Maintain complete audit‑ready records of alert reviews, decisions and escalations.

Required profile

• Experience in sanctions screening, payment screening, transaction monitoring, AML investigations or comparable financial‑crime operations.
• Knowledge of AML, CTF, sanctions and KYC requirements within a regulated financial‑services environment.
• Familiarity with sanctions lists, PEP data, watch‑lists and global adverse‑media sources.
• Strong analytical and investigative skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to produce concise, audit‑ready written rationales and communicate findings effectively.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Experience using screening, case‑management and research tools.
• Understanding of payment messaging and payment‑processing workflows.
