Payroll Administrator (Workday)

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator to join our busy in‑house payroll team in Watford. You will work with the newly implemented Workday Payroll system, handling monthly payroll for a large UK business during a period of change.

Key responsibilities

• Support the end‑to‑end monthly payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely delivery.
• Process payroll changes including starters, leavers, salary adjustments, absences, benefits, statutory payments and variable pay.
• Manage payroll reconciliations, third‑party payments, pension deductions and reporting.
• Respond to payroll queries from employees, HR, Finance, HMRC and external bodies.
• Produce payroll reports, analyse data and support audits.
• Assist with year‑end processes, controls and continuous improvements.
• Support the Payroll Management team with documentation and system‑related activities.

Required profile

• Previous experience using Workday Payroll and Time & Attendance.
• Strong end‑to‑end payroll administration experience in a high‑volume environment.
• Excellent knowledge of UK payroll legislation, RTI, statutory payments, pensions and deductions.
• Advanced Excel ability to analyse and reconcile payroll data.
• High attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Proactive, organised and capable of managing multiple priorities.

What we offer

• Salary £33,000‑£40,000 per year.
• 3‑6 month contract with potential for extension.
• Hybrid working (4 days office, 1 day remote) in Watford.
