Payroll Advisor

About the role

Our client is looking for an experienced Payroll Advisor to join a fast‑paced, multi‑site payroll team supporting sectors such as energy, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and oil & gas. The role offers the chance to develop expertise within a large, dynamic engineering and industrial services business.

Key responsibilities

• Process payroll from start to finish across multiple contracts, meeting strict deadlines.
• Ensure accurate pay in line with varied pay agreements.
• Set up new starters and process leavers, calculating termination, redundancy and notice payments.
• Administer statutory and occupational payments, including SMP, SPP, SSP, occupational maternity pay and sick benefits.
• Produce payroll reports for internal departments.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders to maintain clear communication and deadline adherence.
• Work with external parties such as pension providers, HMRC and courts.
• Respond promptly and professionally to payroll queries.
• Handle payroll‑related correspondence and maintain high‑standard records and filing systems.
• Stay up‑to‑date with payroll and pension legislation and follow established policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Proven payroll experience in a fast‑paced, multi‑site, multi‑contract environment.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Current knowledge of payroll and pension legislation.
• Understanding of HMRC reporting requirements, including Benefits in Kind.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Desirable: recognised CIPP payroll qualification.
