Payroll Manager – Hybrid, Cambridge

About the role

Reed is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead a standalone payroll function for a diverse workforce in Cambridge. Working in a hybrid model, you will ensure accurate, compliant and timely payroll processing while supporting the broader HR team.

Key responsibilities

• Process monthly payroll for permanent staff, senior employees and casual workers.
• Maintain payroll records and employee data with strict confidentiality.
• Configure and administer payroll systems, ensuring all pay elements are correct.
• Prepare and submit statutory returns (RTI, FPS, EPS) and manage PAYE, NI, pension, student loan and other deductions.
• Oversee pension scheme administration, including auto‑enrolment and communications.
• Calculate statutory payments such as SSP, SMP, SPP and Shared Parental Pay.
• Produce payroll reports, journals and management information for budgeting and decision‑making.
• Support annual activities including salary reviews, bonus payments, P11Ds, Gender Pay Gap reporting and year‑end processes.
• Act as the subject‑matter expert for payroll queries, advising colleagues and stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven end‑to‑end payroll administration experience.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet strict deadlines.
• High level of discretion, professionalism and integrity when handling confidential information.
• Effective communication and stakeholder‑management skills.

• Advanced Excel.
• Sage Payroll software.
