Payroll Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Payroll Manager to join a growing multi‑site hospitality group near Colchester. The role involves managing monthly payrolls for both salaried and hourly staff across several locations.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, check and reconcile multiple payrolls across different periods, including weekly rota closures.
• Review rotas and reports side‑by‑side, identify anomalies and ensure figures align.
• Act as the primary contact for site managers on payroll queries, providing prompt and clear resolutions.
• Maintain accurate records for statutory payments such as SSP, SMP and other obligations.
• Process payroll anomalies, expenses, bonuses and live‑in rent adjustments.

Required profile

• Solid grounding in payroll processes.
• Working knowledge of SMP, SSP, SPP, pensions, tax, pro‑rating, Tronc and payroll variations.
• Comfortable closing and interrogating rotas, previewing reports and spotting inconsistencies.
• Ability to calculate estimates confidently and explain payroll matters in plain English.
• Experience with multi‑site payroll is a plus; hospitality exposure welcomed but not essential.
• Proactive mindset, strong attention to detail and a drive for process improvement.
