Payroll Manager – Umbrella Services

About the role

Abacus Consulting is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead its umbrella payroll function in West Hertfordshire. The position is office‑based and reports directly to senior management, supporting a fast‑growing solutions‑driven business.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end umbrella payroll processing on a weekly and monthly basis.
• Lead and supervise a large payroll team in day‑to‑day operations.
• Ensure full HMRC and PAYE compliance and handle statutory payments.
• Maintain robust payroll systems and internal controls.
• Collaborate closely with the senior management team and key stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships.

Required profile

• Extensive all‑round payroll experience, with a focus on umbrella payroll.
• Previous roles such as Payroll Specialist, Team Leader, Assistant Payroll Manager or Payroll Manager.
• Proven ability to manage teams and deliver accurate payroll services.
