Payroll Officer (6-month Fixed-Term, Hybrid/Remote)

About the role

This 6‑month fixed‑term position offers a hybrid/remote working model while supporting a busy finance function at Sheridan Maine’s Bournemouth office. You will take full ownership of the end‑to‑end payroll process, ensuring accurate and compliant salary payments for the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the complete monthly payroll cycle, including salaries, overtime, statutory pay and adjustments.
• Validate payroll inputs, maintain audit controls and produce detailed payroll reporting packs.
• Prepare and submit HMRC PAYE and NI returns, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
• Reconcile payroll accounts, pensions and HMRC submissions.
• Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, providing clear explanations.
• Serve as the first point of contact for all payroll queries.
• Collaborate with HR and Finance to guarantee accurate payroll data and approvals.

Required profile

• 2–3+ years of hands‑on experience in end‑to‑end payroll processing.
• Strong knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, pensions and UK payroll legislation.
• Proven ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment and meet strict monthly deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills and professional discretion.
• Immediate availability for an on‑site handover and occasional meetings.
