Payroll Officer – End-to-End Payroll Management

About the role

This role offers a hands‑on opportunity to own the full payroll cycle for a company of around 500 employees. You will work within a stable, supportive environment, ensuring accurate and compliant payroll processing while staying up‑to‑date with legislative changes.

Key responsibilities

• End‑to‑end payroll administration, including importing time and attendance data, validating outputs and reconciling reports.
• Managing employee lifecycle changes such as onboarding, exits and contractual updates within payroll systems.
• Maintaining payroll data, including pay structures, PAYE tax codes and personal records.
• Interpreting HMRC notices, tax code amendments and statutory deductions, acting as the point of contact for payroll queries.
• Calculating and processing statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP) in line with current legislation.
• Coordinating payroll payments via BACS and overseeing secure distribution of payslips and statutory documentation.
• Submitting payroll returns and reports through HMRC online systems, meeting all deadlines.
• Administering workplace pension auto‑enrolment, including assessments, enrolments, opt‑outs and scheme maintenance.

Required profile

• CIPP qualification or proven hands‑on payroll experience.
• Experience managing payroll for a large employee base (approximately 500 staff).
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC processes and statutory requirements.
• Ability to work independently, own the end‑to‑end process and handle confidential information.
