Payroll Specialist – £30k-£35k, Bonus, Flexible 4‑day Week

About the role

We are seeking a Payroll Specialist to join a long‑standing, family‑run accounting practice in Carlisle. The role offers a clear progression path towards a Payroll Manager position, a competitive 17% bonus and the possibility of a four‑day working week.

Key responsibilities

• Provide end‑to‑end payroll services for a portfolio of small to medium‑sized businesses.
• Engage with clients, gather payroll data and ensure accurate processing.
• Submit payroll information to HMRC and manage all related communications.
• Produce payroll reports for clients and for internal practice use.
• Collaborate with team members and seek support when required.

Required profile

• Experience working as a payroll specialist or similar within an accounting practice.
• Motivation to develop technical expertise and progress to a managerial role.
• Ability to work Monday‑Friday, 8:00 am‑5:30 pm, with flexibility for a four‑day week.
• Qualified by experience rather than formal certification.
