Payroll Supervisor

About the role

We are a growing SME accountancy practice based in central Reading, looking for an experienced Payroll Supervisor to lead the payroll function for a diverse portfolio of clients. The role is office‑based, full‑time and offers the chance to work within a supportive, friendly environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee end‑to‑end processing of client payrolls on weekly, fortnightly and monthly cycles.
• Manage and review payroll for a portfolio of SME clients, ensuring accuracy and compliance with UK legislation.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for client payroll queries.
• Maintain compliance with HMRC regulations, RTI submissions, auto‑enrolment and statutory payments.
• Support, review and mentor junior payroll staff.
• Liaise with HMRC and pension providers as required.

Required profile

• Proven experience in payroll within an accountancy practice or bureau environment.
• Strong working knowledge of UK payroll legislation and compliance.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and client relationships.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Payroll qualifications (e.g., CIPP) are desirable but not essential.
