Payroll & Systems Manager – HR Department

About the role

The Payroll & Systems Manager will lead the outsourced payroll service and ensure all payroll, pension and benefits processes are accurate, timely and compliant. You will also own the HR information systems, delivering reliable data, reporting and user‑focused improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee end‑to‑end payroll processing, pension queries and benefits administration.
• Validate payroll data, resolve errors before final sign‑off and submit the annual pay remit.
• Support financial modelling, forecasting and the preparation of statutory submissions.
• Lead the HR Information Systems function, ensuring they meet user needs and remain compliant.
• Produce internal and external audit reports, KPI dashboards and workforce analytics.
• Maintain up‑to‑date system configurations and manage data integrity across HR platforms.
• Collaborate with the HR team to deliver a seamless HR service and manage one direct report.

Required profile

• National Payroll Certificate or CIPP Practitioner Certificate, or equivalent extensive payroll experience.
• Proven expertise in pay, reward and pensions within a fast‑paced professional environment.
• Strong knowledge of GDPR, Freedom of Information and Subject Access Requests.
• Experience delivering training on HR and payroll systems.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel and MS Word proficiency.
• Experience with Zellis payroll system.
• Familiarity with HR Information System platforms.
• Knowledge of Edenred/Mylifestyle benefits platform.
