Payroll Technical Advisor (Hybrid)

About the role

The Payroll Technical Advisor will own the payroll process for the BSC, ensuring services are accurate, efficient and compliant with current legislation. This hybrid position works Monday to Friday, 8:30 am‑5:00 pm, with occasional out‑of‑hours duties.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee payroll practices, procedures and systems across the BSC.
• Support and deputise for the Payroll and Pensions Service Manager to meet operational SLAs.
• Provide specialist technical advice to the Systems Team and maintain the payroll system.
• Collaborate with finance, HR, client organisations (schools, police) and external bodies such as HMRC and pension scheme administrators.
• Cover the office on a rota basis and hold payroll surgeries.
• Deliver business‑critical functions outside normal hours when required.

Required profile

• Full‑time temporary contract (fixed‑term) role.
• Availability to work 8:30 am‑5:00 pm, Monday‑Friday, with flexibility for occasional out‑of‑hours work.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information held within the BSC.
• Commitment to a non‑smoking workplace.
