Payroll Technical Lead

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Payroll Technical Lead to join a busy payroll team in Central London. The role combines technical ownership of payroll systems with leadership of a specialist team, ensuring accurate processing and compliance with UK legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership to guarantee accurate payroll processing and meet deadlines.
• Maintain compliance with HMRC regulations, PAYE, National Insurance and pension legislation.
• Lead year‑end activities, including P60, P11D and statutory reporting.
• Act as subject‑matter expert for LGPS and TPS pension schemes, managing complex pension cases.
• Configure, upgrade, test and implement enhancements to Oracle Payroll and related HR/Finance systems.
• Monitor payroll interfaces and integrations with third‑party applications.
• Allocate workload, coach staff and drive continuous improvement.
• Develop technical documentation, audit trails and management reporting.

Required profile

• Proven experience in payroll processing and technical system management.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC compliance and pension regulations.
• Leadership experience managing a payroll or finance‑technology team.
• Ability to analyse complex payroll and pension issues and implement corrective actions.
