PCV Driver for SEND Transport (Hackney)

About the role

We are looking for experienced PCV drivers to provide safe, reliable transport for children and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the London Borough of Hackney. You will operate council‑owned vehicles, ensuring passengers reach schools, colleges and care settings with dignity and care.

Key responsibilities

• Transport SEND passengers to and from educational and care locations.
• Operate PCV vehicles in compliance with DVSA regulations and council policies.
• Perform daily vehicle safety checks and promptly report any defects.
• Support passengers with additional needs in a calm, professional manner.
• Work alongside SEND Passenger Assistants where assigned.
• Maintain accurate journey logs, incident reports and other required records.
• Uphold safeguarding, health & safety and equality standards at all times.

Required profile

• Full UK driving licence with Category D (PCV) entitlement.
• Valid CPC qualification.
• Valid digital tachograph card.
• Enhanced DBS (Child and/or Adult) – preferably registered on the Update Service.
• Previous experience driving PCV vehicles, ideally within SEND or care transport.
• Strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries.
• Good communication skills and a customer‑focused approach.
• Ability to work split shifts (morning and afternoon routes).
