PE Teacher – Secondary Autism School (Burgess Hill)

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Physical Education teacher to join a specialist secondary autism school located just outside Burgess Hill. This one‑year maternity cover position offers the chance to work in a supportive, forward‑thinking environment where you can make a lasting impact on students' confidence and personal development.

Key responsibilities

• Teach and tutor a Year 8 class within a specialist autism setting.
• Deliver PE and Forest School sessions that promote active, hands‑on learning.
• Plan and adapt lessons to meet individual learning needs.
• Support students with communication, emotional regulation, and confidence.
• Create a calm, structured, and engaging learning environment.
• Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and families.
• Collaborate with support staff and the wider school team.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
• Experience working with young people with autism or SEND (highly desirable).
• Passion for inclusive education and supporting every learner.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to create engaging, flexible, and differentiated lessons.
• Proactive, positive team player.
