Pension Fund Governance Manager

About the role

This permanent position supports a local government client in shaping and maintaining the regulatory framework and governance assurance system for its pension fund. You will act as the primary liaison for all pension scheme governance matters, ensuring compliance, efficiency and customer‑focused outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and monitor the pension fund’s regulatory framework and governance assurance processes.
• Maintain and report on governance procedures, measuring their impact on organisational effectiveness.
• Serve as the main point of contact on the Pensions Regulator Code of Practice 14 and related guidance.
• Lead fund‑wide governance objectives, review progress and ensure appropriate measurement of success.
• Oversee audit activities, work with auditors to agree and execute action plans, and report risk management to the Pension Committee and Local Pension Board.
• Publish key performance indicators and participate in benchmarking clubs to drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification such as IPPM, PMI or CII.
• Extensive knowledge of Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) regulations.
• Proven experience delivering governance services to a large defined‑benefit pension scheme.
• Experience of committee management and familiarity with national LGPS governance standards.
