Pensions Manager – Interim (6‑Month Contract)

About the role

Sellick Partnership is supporting a public sector organisation in South London that manages a large Local Government Pension Scheme. They are seeking an experienced Pensions Manager on a six‑month interim contract to lead a specialist finance team and oversee the financial management of the pension fund.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support a specialist finance team responsible for the pension fund’s financial operations.
• Oversee preparation of annual accounts and related financial reporting.
• Monitor budgets, cash‑flow and financial controls to ensure effective management.
• Build and maintain relationships with auditors, actuaries, investment managers, employers and governance boards.
• Drive continuous improvement by reviewing processes and implementing digital solutions.
• Provide financial advice and insight to support decision‑making across the service.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, accounting standards and Local Government Pension Scheme requirements.
• Support project delivery and service improvements that enhance operational performance.
• Coach, develop and manage team members to foster a high‑performing, collaborative culture.

Required profile

• Recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIPFA).
• Experience in public sector finance, preferably with Local Government Pension Scheme knowledge.
• Strong understanding of public sector accounting principles and financial governance.
• Proven people‑management experience with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
• Excellent analytical ability and communication skills for non‑financial audiences.
