Performing Arts Duty Manager – Zero-hours

About the role

The Performing Arts Duty Manager will join the Theatre Operations team at Brighton College, overseeing the day‑to‑day running of the Richard Cairns Building. Working on a zero‑hours basis, you will ensure the venue is maintained to the highest standards and that users receive exceptional service.

Key responsibilities

• Welcome all building users in a professional and friendly manner.
• Maintain a clean, safe and comfortable environment, coordinating with cleaning and facilities teams.
• Set up and clear timetabled sessions promptly, assisting with event set‑ups and providing on‑site support.
• Conduct regular patrols, open and close the building at scheduled times, and manage theatre auditorium operations according to manuals.
• Oversee routine maintenance checks, inspections and liaise with the Theatre Operations Manager.
• Supervise contractors regarding health and safety, safeguarding and compliance documentation.
• Investigate, document and report any incidents or accidents promptly.
• Ensure adherence to Brighton College policies, health and safety legislation and other relevant procedures.

Required profile

• Customer‑focused with a genuine passion for theatre, music and live events.
• Enthusiastic, self‑motivated and able to work unsupervised while meeting deadlines.
• Strong team player who can also lead a team to deliver consistent standards.
• Flexible and able to adapt to programme changes and ad‑hoc working hours.
• Excellent communicator with the ability to follow college policies and health‑and‑safety requirements.
