Personal Advisor - Leaving care service

About the role

The Personal Advisor will join Oldham Council’s Leaving Care service to support young people aged 16‑25 who are or have been looked after. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will help them achieve independence and positive outcomes in education, employment and housing.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver duties for looked‑after children in line with the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and the Children Act 1989, acting as an advocate for young people.
• Develop and maintain Pathway Plans, ensuring the views and wishes of young people are central to the process.
• Participate in the service’s duty system, providing support Monday to Friday.
• Promote active involvement of young people in service delivery and pathway planning.
• Engage with internal and external organisations to secure stable accommodation, education, training, employment and health outcomes, especially for hard‑to‑reach NEET individuals.
• Implement, review and update individual pathway plans in partnership with agencies and the young person.
• Maintain accurate records and share information with relevant professionals in accordance with council policies.

Required profile

• Experience working with looked‑after children or young people aged 16‑25.
• Knowledge of the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and the Children Act 1989.
• Ability to work in an anti‑oppressive, equality‑focused manner.
• Strong communication skills for building relationships with young people, families and external partners.
• Excellent record‑keeping and information‑sharing capabilities.
