Personal Advisor – Supporting Young Care Leavers

About the role

The Personal Advisor role is part of Buckinghamshire Council's Corporate Parenting Service, dedicated to helping young people aged 16‑25 transition from care to independent adulthood. You will work directly with individuals, delivering one‑to‑one support, group activities and tailored programmes to improve outcomes for care leavers.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a caseload of young people, assessing their needs and developing personalised Pathway Plans.
• Provide ongoing direct support, group work and activity programmes, adapting to flexible working requirements.
• Coordinate with social workers, senior staff and external partners such as health, education, housing and emergency services.
• Advocate for young people’s rights, ensuring corporate parenting duties are understood and delivered.
• Maintain accurate electronic records, safeguarding documentation and case notes.
• Participate in duty work, team development sessions and reflective supervision.

Required profile

• Knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks governing care leavers.
• Understanding of education, training, employment and housing pathways for young people.
• Familiarity with local safeguarding procedures and welfare promotion.
• Ability to engage, motivate and build trusting relationships with diverse young people.

Required skills

• Strong written communication for concise case records.
• Proficiency in maintaining electronic case management systems.
