Personal Advisor – Supporting Young People in Care

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Personal Advisor to join our Health and Wellbeing Directorate within the Safeguarding – Provider Services, Children in Care and Care Leavers division. You will work directly with young people aged 16‑25 who are or have been looked after by the local authority, helping them achieve independent living.

Key responsibilities

• Act as an advocate for looked‑after children in line with the Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000 and the 1989 Children Act.
• Develop and review individual Pathway Plans in partnership with each young person, ensuring their wishes are central.
• Deliver a duty system from Monday to Friday, promoting involvement in service delivery and planning.
• Collaborate with internal and external organisations to secure stable accommodation, education, employment and health outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records and share information appropriately with other professionals.
• Manage a caseload, keeping documentation up‑to‑date according to council policies.

Required profile

• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Child Care, Health & Social Care, or a related field.
• Recent experience working with young people, preferably in a post‑16 or leaving‑care setting.
• Strong record‑keeping and report‑writing abilities.
• Ability to work cooperatively with partner agencies.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

• Computer proficiency sufficient to perform the duties outlined.
