Personal Tax Trainee

About the role

Join a leading top‑40 accountancy practice as a Personal Tax Trainee in Stevenage. You will work alongside experienced tax professionals, gaining hands‑on experience in personal tax compliance while progressing towards professional qualifications.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare Self‑Assessment tax returns for individuals, sole traders, directors, partnerships, landlords and investors.
• Gather, review and organise client information, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Enter financial data into tax software and reconcile against supporting documentation.
• Calculate basic personal tax liabilities and monitor compliance deadlines.
• Prepare client and HMRC correspondence and support timely filing of returns.
• Assist with Making Tax Digital (MTD) compliance, P11D returns and sole trader accounts.
• Maintain organised client files and respond to routine client queries.

Required profile

• Basic understanding of UK personal tax principles through study or prior experience.
• Excellent attention to detail and high accuracy.
• Strong organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Currently studying towards ATT or willing to begin professional studies.
• Professional attitude with discretion handling confidential information.
