Pharmacy Dispenser – Outpatient Pharmacy

About the role

UHS Pharmacy Ltd is seeking a Pharmacy Dispenser to join its outpatient pharmacy team at University Hospital Southampton. You will help deliver a safe, effective, and high‑quality pharmacy service for patients, carers and healthcare professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Superintendent Pharmacist and Pharmacy Manager in providing a compliant pharmacy service.
• Maintain a clean, organised work environment and ensure all supplies and housekeeping tasks are completed according to SOPs.
• Produce computer‑generated labels and accurately dispense medication for inpatient and outpatient prescriptions, including controlled drugs and specialist items.
• Receive prescriptions, record receipt, and manage related financial transactions such as charge collection and exemption checks.
• Work the front counter when required, delivering excellent customer service and appropriate advice to patients and staff.
• Support stock control and ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained.

Required profile

• Experience in dispensing medication within a hospital or outpatient pharmacy setting.
• Good knowledge of pharmacy legislation, SOPs and professional standards.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow documented procedures accurately.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, carers and healthcare professionals.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
