Physical Education Teacher – Alternative Provision (Burnley)

About the role

We are seeking an inspirational Physical Education Teacher to join an Alternative Provision school in Burnley. The role starts in September 2026 and is full‑time, term‑time only, delivering inclusive PE programmes for students with diverse social, emotional and mental health needs.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and deliver adaptive PE lessons for Key Stages 3 and 4, focusing on confidence, resilience and positive behaviour.
• Manage classroom and sports field behaviour using positive reinforcement and de‑escalation techniques.
• Build trusting relationships with learners who have experienced barriers in mainstream education.
• Assess and monitor student progress, celebrating milestones and encouraging lifelong fitness.
• Collaborate with teaching assistants, pastoral teams and SENDCOs to provide a holistic approach.

Required profile

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS in Physical Education, or extensive experience as a sports instructor in SEMH settings.
• Proven experience working with students with SEMH, ADHD, ASD or challenging behaviours in Alternative Provision, PRU or special schools.
• Strong communication, active listening and rapport‑building abilities.
• Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.

Required skills

• Knowledge of inclusive PE curriculum design.
• Behaviour management strategies for SEMH learners.
• Ability to adapt activities for diverse physical and emotional needs.
